Blood Sunset

This is something I did in my classroom today, using acrylics on paper rather than canvas(which was unavailable). Again, I used no black. It started out as a rather cheerful picture with a blue sky, but then I started getting carried away with the red, and decided to make it a very dark picture. It was very thereputic as well, as I was thinking about some things that happened to me last year while painting it.

Also this picture is partly inspired by "The Day After", a movie about the destruction a nuclear war would cause. Basically, you could think of it as what it would look like the moment a bomb goes off, or sometime after, where the trees are still living, but surrounded by death. That movie was very powrful, especially at the end when the screen goes blank and you hear this guy talking on the CB radio and asking "Is anybody out there? Anybody at all?" before the radio goes silent and all you hear is static.

I did some adjustments with this picture, and had to do four scans of it and then merge them. After some experimentation, I decided to just adjust the levels, and it worked very well. If I ever get a big enough scanner, I'll have to scan the whole thing because some parts of it had to be cropped out due to problems with merging the four parts.
